Biography

Camilo Bornstein (* 1989 in Nicaragua) grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. There he completed a bachelor’s degree in biology and then in composition. Between 2017 and 2020, he studied a master’s degree in composition at the Frankfurt School of Music (HfMDK). He is currently studying for a master’s degree in specialized performance at the Basel Music Academy.

His main activities include concert music, stage music and pedagogy. His pieces have been performed in Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, Denmark and South Korea.

Camilo has worked on plays in one of the largest theaters in Germany, Schauspiel Frankfurt, as well as in other theaters such as studioNAXOS and Landungsbrücken.

In 2022, he was awarded first prize in the classical category of the “JüMiD – current Jewish music in Germany” competition.

In September 2023, his commissioned work “Mitkanes” was premiered by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony as part of a ceremony organized by the Jewish community in Frankfurt.

Camilo was selected as a composition fellow of the Mozart Foundation for 2022 and 2023.
